Class List and Descriptions

Classes subject to change. Class selections are on a first-come, first-served basis. Check back for updates.

Class A: Explorations in Physics/Astromony

Come experience the world around you from the perspective of the laws of nature, using inquiry based science reasoning. (25)

Class B: Becoming a Peace Officer

Learn what it takes to be in law enforcement. (25)

Class C: US Customs & Border Protection (CBP)

Present a brief overview of a “day in the life” of a CBP officer followed by an opportunity to participate in a hands on deomonstration of handcuffing. Limit 16 Students. (25)

Class D: Does Money Grow on Trees?

Wood, paper, heating, buildings, musical instruments, crafts, toys, nuts, fruits, and even mushrooms! “Wood” you believe it all comes from a tree? Many jobs rely on forestry, even in North Dakota, and selling “specialty forest products” could be an opportunity to start your own business to earn extra money. (25)

Class E: Ogimaawiwin Leadership & Management

To introduce students to the top four leadership styles—Autocratic, Democratic, Laissez-Faire, and Transformational—through an engaging and interactive activity. By the end of this 30-minute session, students will have a better understanding of each style and how they influence group dynamics and outcomes. (25)

Class F: College Knowledge

Students will explore their ideas of college, whether they want to attend college, and how college could make a difference in their financial lives and help them reach their career goals. Grades 5th – 8th. Student Limit 28. (25)

Class G: Paper Airplane Research Lab

Students will create paper airplanes using the scientific method. Learn about scientific method, collect data and reproduce data. (25)

Class H: Young Workers - Talking Safety

Let’s talk about safety for young workers. Your first real job could come with real risks. Limit 24 Students. (25)

Class I: The Business of Language

Participants will learn a few words and phrase in Ojibwe while playing games. Presenters will discuss the need for language games, devices for language learning. (25)

Class J: Firefighters as Problem Solvers: Protecting Our Community Through Innovation

Students will learn how innovation plays a role in firefighting – from modern protective gear and emergency tools to quick decision-making during emergencies. The session encourages students to think like innovators by exploring how everyday challenges can be solved through preparation, critical thinking, and community service. Limit 16 Students. (25)

Class K: How heavy equipment works

Learning about how heavy equipment is used to build the world we live in. Limit 16 Students. (25)

Class L: Collections & Archives

Students will learn about museums and archives, as well as all the jobs that go into them. Students may be given a tour of TMC’s Collections & Archives spaces, time permitting. (25)

Class M: Tall Towers & Tight Budgets

Can you build the tallest tower without running out of money? In this hands-on challenge, you’ll work with a team to design and build a free-standing tower using simple materials. Every material costs money, so you’ll have to make smart choices before you build. Will you spend big for strength, or save and get creative? Test your ideas, learn from mistakes, and see whose tower stands the tallest when time runs out! Limit 24 Students. (25)
