Class List and Descriptions
Classes subject to change. Class selections are on a first-come, first-served basis. Class lists will be available closer to the Education Day. CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES!
Class A: Main Street ND
Learn HOW, WHAT, WHEN, & WHY to start your own 21st Century Business in today’s technological world. Learn to recognize your strengths AND weaknesses and how to attract and retain the people you need to compete and succeed. (22)
Class B: A "Breakout" from Traditional Roles!
Feeding a growing world is one of the most vital future needs for all of us! In this session, students will have fun “breaking out” of lock boxes while learning about many career paths that are available to them and how these jobs relate to agriculture and feeding the world. Come and be challenged! Limit 24 Students. (23)
Class C: Career Paths in Aviation
Steam as a tool to foster entrepreneurship, problem solving, using critical thinking, and career paths to Aviation. (23)
Class D: How to Handle an Emergency and Bandage Wounds
Discuss what to do in an emergency, how to call 911 and steps to bandage simple wounds. We will also demonstrate how to bandage wounds and the kids will have a chance to practice. (23)
Class E: Electric Motors and Electric Circuits
For this class we will use two 20-minute sessions to explain how electric motors work and each student will build a simple electric motor that they can take home with them. Each student will build a motor kit, and then run the motor using a battery to learn how electricty make a motor turn. Grades 5 and above. Limit 10 Students. Electric Circuits A 20 Minute session where we will explain how an electric circuit works to turn on a light. Students will build a simple circuit they can take home. The project will have a battery, a switch, and a lamp they will connect with wire and be able to turn the light on and off. Grades 5 and above. Limit 10 Students. (23)
Class F: Land Surveying and Mapping
A look inside the profession of Land Surveying and how we as Professional Land Surveyors help build the world around us by using technology such as Laser Scanners, Robotics, GPS and Drones. (23)
Class G: Sun & Skin: Sun Safety 101
Most kids rack up 50-80% of their lifetime sun exposure before age 18. Practicing sun safety every day is the best way to protect your skin from harmful UV radiation. Learn how UV rays work, how to protect your skin, how to choose a sunscreen and engage in a hands-on UV blocking activity. By being sun safe, you can greatly reduce your chance of skin cancer. (23)
Class H: Young Workers - Talking Safety
Let’s talk about safety for young workers. Your first real job could come with real risks. Limit 24 Students. (23)
Class I: Energy Opportunities in North Dakota
Discuss what forms of energy exist and what methods are used in North Dakota to produce electricity and other forms of power. Explain the importance of energy relating to our quality of life, environment, and economic impacts to society. (23)
Class J: Bridge Building 101
Bridge Building 101 explains how engineering has impacted the development of bridges over time, including innovative designs and the challenge of creating bridges that become landmarks for a city. Students work in teams of “engineers” to design and build their own bridge out of toothpicks and gumdrops. They test their bridges using weights, evaulate their results, and present their findings to the class. (23)
Class K: Experiments with Electricity
We will be using snap circuits and teaching kids about conductive materials and insulators. Limit of 24 Students. (23)
Class L: Lessons About Money
The more you know about how to make money, how to save money, and how to spend money, the less likely it is that you will have money problems as an adult. Join us to learn ways you can be smart about your money right now as a kid! (23)
Class M: Manufacture a Window with Marvin
Have you ever wondered how manufacturing works? Join Marvin as we discuss how we go about making as many quality windows as we can in a day for people’s homes. There are lots of jobs that make this possible, from engineers to production workers, everyone has a role to play. Limit 24 Students. (23)
Class N: Career on Wheels
Students will get to see the vehicles that make their town work and keep them safe. (23)
Class O: Operation LifeSaver
Railroad Safety, trespass prevention, and how to report emergencies that occur while on or near railroad property. (23)
Class P: That's Inside Me!
Brief discussion on the things inside your body. Different cells and what they do. Some of the bacteria and viruses that make you sick. What I do to find these things and how it helps the doctors.
Class Q: Rev Up Your Learning
NASCAR style pit stop tire change. Limit 16 students. (23)
Class R: Opportunities in Mass Media
We’ll talk about careers in radio broadcasting, news, sports play-by-play, newspaper publishing and reporting, marketing and sales. (23)
Class S: Educating Outdoor Educators
Being an outdoor educator is more than taking math tests outside – it’s about sharing a love for nature and the outdoors! Connecting visitors with the outdoors is one of the most important roles of any park employee, from the city level to the national level, as well as any other learning space outside or inside. (23)
Class T: Team Building
The class will build an apparatus utilizing a diagram and using their team. Will work in groups of 3. Limit 15 Students. (23)
Class U: You've Got Some Nerve/Helping Hands
Students briefly learn about nerves and participate in an activity OR learn why some people have difficulty doing everyday tasks and participate in an activity. Limit 16 Students. (23)
